Folklore music-dance creativity dates back to the first human communities that had need for ritual movement and voice performances for various occasions. Each human community created distinctive and specific folkloric performance that was recognizable to the community itself. Folklore tradition has been passed on for centuries and later got new shapes and forms. The preserved folklore heritage has served for centuries as an inspiration to many artists in creating valuable art pieces in the sphere of music, dance and ballet.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, this creative folk spirit has been expressed with high intensity. In a relatively small geographical area of the multi-national Bosnia and Herzegovina, a miraculous folklore treasure was created inside which dance-music creativity as a special form of spiritual expression and creativity of all nations of Bosnia and Herzegovina appeared.
Part of this invaluable heritage of song, dance, movement and mores is being kept by our ensemble of folk games and songs. From the very beginning of the Association, the National Dances and Songs Ensemble takes special place in the Association and forms the backbone of it. The ensemble of folk dances and songs of Bascarsija with its stage performances, rich repertoire and choreography is the pearl and leader in the presentation of authentic folklore creativity of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo.
